The Epoch Times’ epic fail reporting on Bill Cosby sexual assault allegation

When reporting on an alleged sexual assault, it's a good idea to accurately identify the accuser

This Nov. 30, 2014 screen capture shows an erroneous Epoch Times story published Nov. 18, 2014 under the headline "Lachele Covington, Cosby Show Actress, Accused Bill Cosby of Attempted Abuse." The Epoch Times committed an epic fail in a Nov. 18, 2014 story regarding past sexual assault allegations levied against comedian Bill Cosby, published under the erroneous headline “Lachele Covington, Cosby Show Actress, Accused Bill Cosby of Attempted Abuse.”

Lachele Covington was an actress on “Cosby,” a sitcom which aired on CBS from 1996 to 2000. “The Cosby Show” aired on NBC from 1984 to 1992.

If you’re going to report about someone accusing Cosby of sexual assault, it’s a good idea to accurately identify the accuser in your reporting.

This isn’t a simple headline blunder, either. “An old police report has popped up in which Cosby Show actress Lachele Covington accused Bill Cosby of trying to engage in sexual activities with her,” reads the Epoch Times story’s erroneous lede.

That’s just epically sloppy.
